BANGKOK BABY

Bangkok Baby.
Großstadtdschungel. Asphaltwüste. Betonmeer.
Es klebt und tropft. Diese Hitze.
Die Stadt hat Fieber. Zähes Blut. Durst.
Lächelnde Menschen. Smartphones. 
Die Eiskälte der Bahn. Luft. Endlich!
Auf der Straße dampft, zischt und brodelt es. 
40 Baht, 20 Baht. Hühnchen, Wassermelone, Sticky Rice.
Warteschlangen. Über allem das Kabelwirrwarr.
Das Kind auf dem Arm, die Großmutter auf dem Stuhl.
Big Mango, der süße Geruch von Frangipani.
Motorsai fliegen durch die Betonschluchten.
Verkehrschoreographie 
1-2 Taxi links,
3-4 Fußgänger überquert,
5-6 Motorbike geradeaus,
7-8 Bus hinterher.
Ein Tanz der Motoren. Hupen und Knattern sind die Musik.
Über allem schwebt die Himmelbahn - anmutig.
Geordnetes Chaos. Geliebte Stadt. 

Back from Blog Hibernation

I looked it up, my last post was in November, 8th. So I was absent from this little space here for more than 2 months! Truth being told, I simply didn't make time for blogging. That happened because I lost my motivation for creative writing between editing/proofreading at work and handing in essays over essays in my English class. Yet I missed filling this online kind of diary lots. And I did SO MUCH in the last weeks or rather months. We checked off two more awesome places in Thailand, Koh Chang and Koh Phangan, which I will get back to later. In the next time I want to try getting them together because they are too good not to share.

But I will begin right from the beginning when I lost track with writing. Although I am far away from home and Christmas is a typical Western holiday, I had a great time with my friends from all over the world here for the festive season. We were putting together a gingerbread house and went to a Christmas buffet (they served ham & turkey, however the cinnamon cookies surpassed every christmas-y dessert I ever had, absolutely delish!). On top of that my family and friends from Germany sent me packets with decorations, chocolate, books and other courtesies.

I am aware of the weirdness of this post blogging just now about my this time. Believe it or not, the next one is just lurking around the corner, 11 months to go from here. Just kidding.

After this lovely afternoon with my girls, people from home came over to visit us. So we had the chance to spend this special time with someone from our family here. That's another reason why I didn't come here to update the site. Spending time with your loved ones can be so precious that there is no room for social media and else. Don't you agree with me?

Xmas Joy

It was so great to share this German tradition of making a witch's cottage out of gingerbread, icing, sweets and powdered sugar. Those little figures aren't handmade just in case you wonder. If I would be that talented, I wouldn't sit here. All of the parts were from a package with instructions kept very simple. For us it was anyway rather about the time nibbling on the gummi bears and babbling for the last time in 2014. We all knew we wouldn't make it once again after that date in December because everyone was out of town travelling over New Year. So this is my christmas post. Better late than never.

Loy Krathong

This week on Thursday I had the chance to experience the Loy Krathong festival in Thailand for the first time. It happens to worship the water spirits and godesses and in Northern Thailand in Chiang Mai it is celebrated with the infamous floated lanterns. Whereas in Bangkok people come together around lakes, canals or rivers - wherever you find water - to float a "krathong". That is a kind of basket made traditionally out of banana leaves and flowers or bread. We went to the green lung of the city, the Lumpini Park, to partake at the lake. 

Halloween & Oktoberfest

Usually I am not a partygirl anymore. I lost my excitement for the nightlife a few years ago when I just realized that everything repeats and becomes one big monotony. Same people, same music, same venues, same drinks, same hangover. But I make exceptions for events involving dressing up properly for theme parties like Halloween and Oktoberfest. This year in Bangkok it happens that both of them were on the same weekend.

For Halloween I didn`t really have anything at home that can be considered as a real costume so I improvised with what I had and made something inspired by the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland (one of my all-time favorite disney movies!).
